Small Driftwood Heart by Julia Minifie

This beautiful driftwood heart is finished with a rope trim and measures: 22 across x 20 cm long. It is made from locally found Devon driftwood and decorated with local shells and seaglass.
It is ready to hang on the wall with a hook at the back.

"Born in Newton Abbot, I lived in Teignmouth until I was 23 before I moved to Torquay. I now live in Paignton with my husband, daughter and two small dogs Minnie and Bertie. I have worked as Art Assistant at a local primary for 17 years working with children using all types of media including ceramics, textiles, collage, sculpture, painting and drawing skills, much of which has had a seaside theme.
Always looking for inspiration whilst walking my dogs on the beach, I started collecting driftwood and seaglass. I adore the way the sea has sculpted the driftwood and made it beautifully smooth so I began making driftwood hearts. Each piece is carfully selected as I build the heart shape, I never reshape or cut pieces and don't use bleach. I prefer to use the driftwood exactly as I discovered it.
The seaglass is fairly new to me. Silver jewellery has been a passion for 2 years creating pieces for friends and family, but I wanted to use my collection of seaglass as it looked so beautiful with the many different hues and tones of white, blue and green and very rarely red! I choose pieces which are similar in shape, size and colour creating unique elegant earrings."
