Katie Gayle

Katie Gayle MA RCA

Born in Austria Katie came to the U.K. in 1972. She studied Metalwork and Jewellery at the School of Art and Design in Epsom and achieved her Master's degree at the Royal College of Art, London.
She has been living and working in Kenton, Devon since 1999 and is a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.

Her designs are classic as well as contemporary. She works mainly in Silver, Gold and Platinum combined with precious and semi-precious stones. Some of her designs incorporate a changeable or removable part and all her pieces are original designs made by hand. Great attention is given to detail and finish. Katie takes commissions and is happy to work with clients on their own ideas and materials. She is currently developing a ‘Create your own Wedding Rings’ break for couples at her studio complex in the Devon countryside at Kenton, near Teignmouth.

She was a prizewinner in the Platinum Awards in 1983/86/87 and a finalist at the De Beers Diamonds International in 1988 and received the Jackson-Stops & Staff Craft Prize in 1999. She won the jewellery prize in the summer exhibition of the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Art in 2003

She has participated in many group exhibitions abroad and the U.K. Her work has been shown in ELLE, World of Interiors, House and Garden magazines. Katie has also published two books on jewellery and featured in the TV series ‘Crafted’ in November 2002.
