Karen Watson

Karen and her husband moved to North Devon 19 years ago and for 2 years she worked in a small local gift shop. It was here she learnt how to make and paint ceramics. Karen continued with ceramics and opened a local gift shop of her own. This was very successful, but unfortunately, due to family commitments, she had to relinquish the shop, but continued to make and paint ceramics at her home. She gradually began supplying local shops and galleries with her ceramics and still sells through these outlets. Then she stared to work with driftwood and add these to her ceramic sculpture. She says
It all started with a picture of a driftwood horse!’
For 2 years now Karen has increased her range to include beach huts/boats/hearts and mirrors. More recently she has introduced driftwood signs and yachts. Combining these with the ceramics, they make unique and unusual gifts. Each ceramic item from jugs/mugs/teapots to the small letters and surfboards are painted by hand. Karen has had no formal training in Art, but she has a natural talent for colour and design, which is obvious from her colourful and fun items.
Some years on, they are still a 2 person team and run their business from their coastal North Devon home.
