Driftwood Standard Lamp by Denny Dormer

This beautiful standard lamp is made with locally sourced driftwood and a stone.
It measures 146 cm tall (including the lamp shade).

It is made by local artist Denny Dormer from Starcross in Devon.
Denny signs her work by placing a blue piece of glass within one of the pieces of driftwood.
Denny states:

I have always been drawn to the sea - maybe because I am a Piscean, or perhaps as a result of many happy family holidays spent at the beach. I would often come home with a bucket full of seaside treasures - delicate shells, pretty heart shaped pebbles, and lovely pieces of smooth, bleached driftwood. Looking at these later, I would be able to recall the fun we had had that day - racing into the waves, tumbling down the sand dunes, paddling, net in hand, in the rock pools!

I have never tired of picking up these beautiful gifts of nature, an obsession which initially led me to create wind chimes, mirrors and sweet little Christmas trees for friends and family ... and eventually much much more.  And so Life's A Beach Art was born.

I use only driftwood and pebbles local to me, collected on walks with my lovely old black labrador, Biddy (who often tries to help by picking up a motley collection of sticks and stones!).  These walks provide endless inspiration for my work, whether it's the restful horizontal lines of the sea or the particular shape of a piece of driftwood.  I like to leave the wood as I find it too, smoothed and rounded naturally by the constant motion of the waves.  I then carefully and lovingly create each piece until it is, in my mind, as perfect as it can be.  And because no two pieces of driftwood are the same, varying in colour, size and shape, each piece of Life's A Beach Art is truly unique.

I do hope my creations will help you recapture those feelings often associated with the seaside - pleasure, peace, delight!

Please Note: the picture is for illustration purpose only as each tree is individually made so may have slight variations to pictured tree.
