Chrissy Wallis BA (Hons)

Chrissy Wallis graduated as a mature student from Falmouth college of Art in 2007 with a BA (Hons) in Applied Arts where she developed a strong interest in manipulating and transforming what is more usually seen as waste into art forms. She has created several large one off sculptures, which comment on the cycle of life and the cycle of our environment as well as a range of beautiful artwork using car windscreen glass. Her work suggests a developed cultural point of view in the art world that many artists are interested in, the interface between art and the environment.

As a contemporary environmental artist her aim is to create art-works that express a certain beauty and carry an environmental message. Chrissy takes a journey with each material seeking out the potential of its innate qualities. This journey has led t experimentation with kiln re-formed car windscreen glass in a very unique way to create jewellery and light catchers for the home and the garden.

‘Recycling waste using recycled material, is much more than using a cheap resource for material, you are creating and giving new life to something that has been discarded. I don’t’ believe that in order for something to be beautiful and precious it needs to be made from a rare or expensive material and therefore the work that I make is created from car windscreen glass, carrier bags, discarded fabric, electric cable etc. I enjoy the challenge of redefining the material to take it beyond the mundane.’ Chrissy lives and works in Calstock, Cornwall.
